Spring has brought more than just fresh blooms and longer days to the Light of Hope Children’s Home.  New life is blossoming with the addition of Zeena, a one-year-old Staffie adopted from the Sandton SPCA, as well as some hens and the man in charge: Rocky the Rooster.

Recently, the children visited an SPCA market day to coincide with learning about animals. They took an instant liking to Zeena and were eager to play with her and shower her with their love and affection.  After the necessary vaccinations and medical procedures were completed, the children were treated to a surprise when she was brought to the Home as their new pet. Shouts of joy and excited faces surrounded their new puppy and Zeena was instantly at home.

A few days later, our newly renovated chicken coop was blessed with some hens and Rocky the Rooster to keep them in check. We are enjoying the quality eggs they are providing for us, especially as eggs can be hard to come by. Egg hunting and the anticipation of checking the coop each day for new eggs has become part of our daily routine and not just reserved for Easter.
